Photos 2008 - 13/8/2008 - Super Model Car Sunday 2008 - 10th Year and counting!

This is Alan Barton after hearing about the latest figures for his 10th anniversary model car show. With 1500 spectators, 102 model entrants and 757 models, it would be enough to put a smile on anyone's face.   Attendance records were smashed, so 2008 will be looked on as very special for many people.

As well as the regular faces glueing the plastic (and fingers) together, there were displays of slot drag cars, radio control trucks, a drifting RC car and the quarter scale speedway putting on a monster burnout show out the back.

Themes for this year were a drive-in cinema diorama, featuring a car or two from the movies having a bit of R&R in front of the big screen.   The other theme in 2008 was a collection of Hot Wheels Chevy Suburbans in all sorts of guises, be it a lowrider or monster truck.

The main man of the action was again Rob Todaro, taking People's Choice away with the big bad Mad Max-inspired Monaro and cave set.   Ken Searle won a super close bout for Modeller's Choice, with the Hot Rod Garage looking just like the real thing.   Long Distance award was presented to Michelle Richter of The Parts Box fame, flying in from Adelaide with many boxes and bags of goodies for all to enjoy.   Alex Reid found some spare time and built himself a mid-engined, V8 powered Kombi van, which scored a Best Junior Model award from the show.   Junior awards also had a Best Paint category, which went to Brandon Dyson.

Also not forgetting the presentation of a trophy and flowers to Ute and Alan Barton for the amazing work (and countless sleepless nights) over the years to get the show where it is today. With attendance at an all time high, they have put a superlative effort in for all the shows so far. Time to put the feet up before next year... ;)

Our site tends to bias more towards the slot car side of things, despite extending the scope to other models/attractions.
